Meet the Sales Team

The Lifterz sales team consists of Russell, Neil, Simon, Paul & Ben. Between them, they cover the entire country.

I’ve been with Lifterz 6 years now and and in the access / hire industry 15 years. I love selling but in my own way. I like to build strong bonds and sell on trust and honesty. The fact I believe we have a great product and an even better service and aftercare just makes it easier to do. Lifterz has a great sales team who share best practices. Friendly banter promotes healthy competition when the monthly numbers get produced and it’s great seeing year on year growth.

I’ve been a sales account manager with Lifterz for nearly 8 years now and pride myself on building relationships up with my customers on a personal level through my passion for the role and for Lifterz as a company. My areas include West Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside and with our sales all supporting each other and pushing each other along we all make a great team. I still get the buzz of an order, if it be a small scissor to a big machine long term so this makes more determined to succeed.

I target new clients to build and maintain strong relationships with them & help secure future business. I also manage existing customers’ accounts & run with the whole hiring process from start to finish. I pride myself on providing an excellent service & constantly being on the lookout for new trade opportunities that will provide the company with additional revenue.

I am the latest member of the sales team having joined in the new year. I cover South Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Although I have 20 years experience in business to business sales, I am new to the access industry so I’ve been getting up to speed with the products and introducing myself to my new customer base.

I have 13 years experience in the hire industry performing roles such as Sales Executive, Business Development and Regional Accounts. I thrive on providing an excellent service to all customers whether a sole trader or national main contractor.

Accidents Waiting to Happen

Accidents Waiting to Happen

A recent article on Vertikal.net showed a man using a small tube steel scaffold tower on the back of a pickup truck. Basic PASMA tower training would go against this. Make sure you don’t get caught out like this and get PASMA trained with Lifterz.

Another article on Vertikal.net showed dangerous use of a scissor lift on the streets of Gloucestershire. No mats, no cones or barriers were used, and the machines was placed on double yellow lines. This could’ve easily resulted in a fine. He needs IPAF 3a training from Lifterz.

Meet the Hire Desk Teams

Lifterz hire desk is split between 3 locations, with Ossett Head office accounting for over 50% of the team. Ossett have 3 Hire controllers in Emma, Kelly and Shannon, A junior Hire controller In Olivia and 3 members of our Lifterz anywhere In Jonathan, Dan and Martin the latter being our Spider rental controller. Sue makes up the team and manages Scotland and our damages process.

Haydock has a senior hire controller in Andrea, a hire controller in Heather and again, a junior hire controller in Sophie.

Daventry has Keylee as senior hire controller and Brodie as hire controller.

All depots are linked by a hire board so at all times anyone can take an order, check availability or off hire equipment in other areas of the country.

Our process has reduced hundreds of daily phone calls checking what depots have what availability and a live board really does speed up our answers to our customers.

This really does make for a great team spirit and togetherness, even when colleagues are sat 100 miles apart.

Coming in March’s issue, The Sales Team!

That’s an Accident Waiting to Happen

That’s an Accident Waiting to Happen

We saw this article on Vertikal.net recently of a street lighting team using a van mounted platform on a busy street in London. The only problem was, they made no effort to deal with oncoming traffic. The lack of a protection zone and visual warning signs to warn drivers and prevent cars from getting too close is worrying. Should the bus trying to squeeze by on the photo, was to clip the boom, this could cause an issue for the man in the platform and pedestrians walking by. When you hire with Lifterz, we highlight the needs of traffic management and make sure you and your team are safe at all times.

    Chris Caney Retires

    Chris Caney Retires

UK access industry veteran Chris Caney retires after more than three decades in the access industry.

In the late 1970s he worked as an engineer with the fork truck manufacturer Lancer Boss but in 1981 he was recruited by the aluminium scaffold tower manufacturer and rental company Access Equipment as a development engineer for its budding powered access division Zipper which was in the process of developing a trailer-mounted lift. He started on the same day as Malcolm North, who was to join him on the project – North went on to become engineering manager at Niftylift.

In 1987 Access Equipment went into administration after it, and its owner Moss, ran into difficulties. Access Equipment had been an UpRight scaffold licensee for many years, building the Zip-Up branded alloy towers. So, when it went into administration UpRight stepped in and acquired it, later merging it with its John Rusling business to create Instant Zip Up. However, it did not take the Zipper powered access business this was acquired by Access Equipment’s managing director Melvyn Else, and as an engineer with that part of the company Chris Caney joined with Else who had formed Zipper Power Platforms, which manufactured a range of access platforms, and specials and also became the Marklift boom and scissor lift dealer for the UK. Caney focused more on the aviation market building truck mounted scissor lifts and other specials and in 1995 moved to Instant Zip-Up – later UpRight UK – joining its Leighton Buzzard depot as a new equipment salesman, with a particular focus on the aviation market.

In 2002 he and his junior salesman at the Leighton Buzzard depot Duncan Howard were persuaded to leave to set up a sales business alongside Richard Miller and Brian Fleckney’s new rental company Panther Platform Rentals – Panther Platform Sales Ltd. Eventually the two decided that they would be better off doing their own thing and named it Platform Sales and Hire instead.

The venture was essentially a sales company and as in the past Caney built up a strong aviation business building truck mounted scissor lifts for which it used the Flying Carpet branding after the well known UpRight scissor lifts of the 1970s and 80s.

After building up a small – 10 unit – rental fleet the two owners made a bold decision in 2010 when it acquired Milton Keynes based access rental company BAR and its 75 unit rental fleet. The two built the rental business at a steady pace so that when they sold out to Speedy last year, they had a fleet of 850 aerial lifts and 65 staff working from three locations with revenues of nearly £10 million.

Since selling the business Caney has continued to run the specialist sales division within Speedy, as part of the deal, one year on and having reached the ripe old age of 65 he officially leaving the company but will remain on as a consultant for the aviation business.
